Ores & Materials

Runaria has its own metal economy sitting on top of vanilla mining. Twenty-eight raw ores refine into twenty-six metals across four tiers, and everything you craft is made of them.

You cannot strip-mine for these

Custom ores do not generate in the world. No amount of tunnelling will find you Nightsteel. They come from mining nodes, world events, and the market — see below.

Where ore comes from

Mining nodes

The main source. The Sacred Garden mine is where the first tier of ore is dug, and three kinds of node spawn there. Nodes are spread out deliberately, so you can't camp one spot.

Node What it gives
Boulder A big pile of one vanilla resource — iron, gold, copper, coal, diamonds, emeralds, redstone, lapis, quartz or netherite scrap. Every boulder is a lottery ticket.
Copper Node Raw Mystical Molten Alloy, Froststeel or Abyssium
Iron Node Raw Nightsteel, Sunsteel or Starsteel

You must be holding a pickaxe. Any other tool tells you "Can't mine with this tool!" and does nothing. Your pickaxe tier decides how many hits a node takes:

Pickaxe Hits per ore node
Wooden 5
Stone 4
Iron 3
Golden 2
Diamond or Netherite 1

There's a half-second cooldown between registered hits, so a diamond pickaxe is a massive throughput upgrade — five times the rate of a wooden one.

More mines are planned for the higher ore tiers.

Resource Drops

Ore and Meteor Drops crash into the world for 20 minutes at a time and are the best early way to stockpile Ember Stone, alongside a spread of tier-1 raw ores.

The market

Every raw ore is stocked at the server shop if you'd rather buy than mine.

The four tiers

Tier 1 — refined at the Basic Refinery

The early-game backbone. Everything a new player crafts is made from these six.

Ore Colour
Raw Nightsteel Deep navy blue
Raw Abyssium Dark teal, cyan-green
Raw Sunsteel Bright orange-gold
Raw Starsteel Blue-and-pink spiked crystal
Raw Froststeel Solid deep blue
Raw Mystical Molten Alloy Molten red-orange

Tier 2 — Advanced Refinery, level 15

Raw Bloodsteel (oxblood) · Raw Embersteel (orange) · Raw Cindersteel (ashier reddish-orange) · Raw Crownsteel (purple and gold) · Raw Faesteel (pink and purple plating) · Raw Crystallized Gold (gold shot through with crystal)

Tier 3 — Supreme Refinery, level 30

Raw Skysteel (sky blue) · Raw Aqualite (bright cyan) · Raw Amethril (bright purple) · Raw Verdanite (green) · Raw Venomsteel (green and purple) · Raw Infected Steel (sickly grey-brown)

Tier 4 — Master Refinery, level 45

Raw Bubble Steel (pale mint) · Raw Pearly Steel (iridescent off-white) · Raw Thornsteel (jagged olive) · Raw Soulsteel (violet spirit-metal) · Raw Mechanite (brushed steel-blue) · Raw Nebula Steel (deep violet with starlight) · Raw Dragonsteel (dark burnt red) · Raw Matrix (near-black with a shifting grid)

Dragonsteel and Matrix are the two best metals in the game.

Ingots and Big Ingots

Refining happens at the four refineries — talk to Browntul to open them. Every metal exists in two forms, and the difference decides what you can craft.

Ingots are the standard bar, straight from a refinery.

Big Ingots are made at the Basic Refinery: 6 ingots + 2 Ember Stones → 1 Big Ingot. A Big Ingot is always exactly one full rarity above its small version.

Big Ingots are the key to \"+\" gear

Normal gear is crafted from small ingots in bulk — 30 to 42 per item. "+" rarity gear is crafted from Big Ingots, only two to five per item. If you want plus-tier equipment, you need Big Ingots.

Metals Ingot Big Ingot
Nightsteel, Abyssium, Sunsteel, Starsteel, Froststeel, Mystical Molten Alloy Common Uncommon
Bloodsteel, Embersteel, Cindersteel, Crownsteel, Faesteel, Crystallized Gold Uncommon Rare
Skysteel, Aqualite, Amethril, Verdanite, Venomsteel, Infected Steel Rare Epic
Bubble Steel, Pearly Steel, Thornsteel, Soulsteel, Mechanite, Nebula Steel Epic Legendary
Dragonsteel, Matrix Legendary Unique

Reagents

Every refining recipe burns a reagent, and they form a strict chain — which means Ember Stone never becomes obsolete.

Reagent Made at Recipe
Ember Stone Basic Refinery 2 Cobblestone + 2 Coal → 4
Blaze Core Advanced Refinery 1 Ember Stone + 1 Blaze Rod + 1 Coal → 8
Fire Essence Supreme Refinery 2 Ember Stone + 2 Blaze Core + 2 Coal Block → 8

Ember Stone also drops from Resource Drops and Temple chests.

Dungeon reagents

These come from fighting, not mining, and they're what gate gem and enchant crafting:

Reagent Where
Teleport Dust, Deep Pearl, Void Crystal End Striders and Enderlings
Common Mana Stone Temple
Scorched Bone Temple
Dark Soul Sand Cultists and Berserks
Smoldering Ash Monsters and Liches

Manastones run their own ladder from Common all the way to Unique.

The rarity ladder

Common → Common+ → Uncommon → Uncommon+ → Rare → Rare+ → Epic → Epic+ → Legendary → Legendary+

Tier Colour
Common and Common+ Gray
Uncommon and Uncommon+ Green
Rare and Rare+ Dark Aqua
Epic and Epic+ Purple
Legendary and Legendary+ Gold

What "+" actually means: a "+" item has the same colour and the same number of stat rolls as its base tier, but each stat's magnitude sits about 30% of the way toward the next full tier. A Rare+ sword genuinely beats a Rare one — but still loses to an Epic.

Break down \"+\" gear, not base gear

Each "+" tier deconstructs into the essence of the tier above it. Deconstructing a Rare+ weapon gives you an Epic Weapon Essence. That makes "+" gear far more efficient to break down than to sell.

Unique exists above Legendary, in red, and is currently reserved for the very best Big Ingots.

Other materials

  • Weapon Essences — from deconstructing gear. A failed deconstruct instead gives Broken Weapon Powder, and higher tiers lose more of it.
  • Soulbinders and Soulcrushers — Apprentice, Intermediate and Arcane grades. Soulbinders bind an item to you (70%, 80% or 90% success); Soulcrushers break a soulbind.
  • Scroll of Identification — 2 Paper + 1 Diamond. Identifies unidentified drops.
  • Gem Remover and Skin Remover — shears that strip a gem or skin off an item.
  • Restoration Gem — repairs magic items.
