Bestiary¶
Runaria replaces most of what you'd expect to meet in the world. This is what's out there, where it lives, and what's worth killing.
Progression at a glance¶
The server's own experience values rank the fight ladder like this:
Enderling → Ender Watchman → End Strider → Temple Skeletons → Lich King → Cog Sentinel
The End frontier¶
An End-themed area out in the overworld, and the best material farm in the game. This is where new adventurers cut their teeth — Mest is stationed there to help.
| Creature | What it is |
|---|---|
| Enderling | A small enderman. Fast, teleports constantly. The safe, reliable grind. |
| End Wraith | A small flying spirit that dashes and spin-slashes. Usually summoned, occasionally alone. |
| Ender Watchman | A sorcerer with a lantern who summons End Wraiths and shoves with the lantern. |
| Ender Crawler | A multi-legged beast with fang, horn and jump attacks. |
| Enderbruiser | A heavy brute that smashes and throws players. |
| Endermauler | A large screaming horror that teleports periodically and closes with slash flurries. |
| Ender Strider | "Quite slow, but pack a powerful punch." The prize of the zone. |
What they drop¶
Enderlings give Teleport Dust, Deep Pearls and Void Crystals — the reagents behind every gemstone and enchant stone you'll ever craft. Watchmen, Crawlers and Endermaulers add Void Fabric, Ender Carapace, Heart of Ender and rarer void materials.
End Striders are several times more productive than anything else here, dropping those same reagents in bulk, and they're the only source of the Ancient Key that opens Temple.
You can ride one
Ender Striders are tameable. Feed one a Golden Apple — roughly a one-in-three chance per apple — and it gains a saddle. They carry a passenger, too.
Temple undead¶
Found only inside Temple.
- Skeleton Warrior — "A weak skeletal grunt. They appear plentifully guarding the dungeon, but no one knows why."
- Skeleton Archer — "Their pride in their skills is unmatched, even though they miss more shots than they hit."
- Skeleton Shaman — a skeletal caster. The Codex hints these may be what animates the Cog Sentinel.
- Lich King — "He used to command a great army before ending up trapped in the dungeon. No one knows how he got there." A robed skeletal caster who fights with a scythe and shadow magic.
- Cog Sentinel — "No one knows how this assortment of gears gained sentience." A towering clockwork guardian that fires tracking projectiles which scorch the floor and detonate. The highest-experience kill on the server.
The cult¶
A ritual-themed group you'll only meet somewhere well off the beaten path. If you've run into these, you found something.
- Cultist — hits hardest of the group in raw melee.
- Berserk — a hulking, slow-swinging brute.
- Monster — a fast charging mass.
- Sorcerer — mixes melee with ranged spellcasting.
- Lich — a floating caster that keeps its distance, panics away from you, and leaves orbs behind.
Cultists and Berserks carry Dark Soul Sand; Monsters and Liches carry Smouldering Ash. Both are gemcrafting materials you can't get anywhere else.
Something considerably worse than any of them waits at the end.
The Deep Dark¶
Sculk creatures spawn naturally in Deep Dark biomes. They're capped tightly so you'll meet them one or two at a time.
- Echo Enshrouder — the heavyweight. Soul explosions, sculk spikes, blankets the area in darkness, fires from both hands. The rarest of the group.
- Sculk Sentinel — a grappler that grabs, smashes, stomps and lashes with its tongue.
- Sculk Screamer — screams the moment it enters combat. Expect company.
- Sculked Crustacean and Sculk Crabby — pinching swarm creatures.
- Soul Bearer — a ranged shooter.
They drop nothing
None of the sculk creatures drop anything at all. Fight them to clear a path or for the challenge, not for profit.
Ocean life¶
A full marine ecosystem spawns across the oceans, split by water temperature.
Gentle Ocean — Catfish, Dolphin, Jellyfish, Lobster, Manatee, Manta Ray, Sea Slug, Seabass, Shark, Spider Crab, Starfish, Sunfish, Swordfish
Exotic Seas (warm and lukewarm) — Betta Fish, Blue Glaucus, Clownfish, Crab, Dory Fish, Electric Eel, Garden Eel, Lionfish, Mahi Mahi, Mantis Shrimp, Narwhal, Oarfish, Ocean Snail, Seahorse, Tropical Fish
Dangerous Deeps (cold, frozen and deep) — Anglerfish, Barracuda, Box Jellyfish, Giant Squid, Hammerhead Shark, Nautilus, Octopus, Orca, Pearl Clam, Piranha, Pistol Shrimp, Pufferfish, Sea Angel, Stingray
Bold entries bite back. Sharks, Orcas and Hammerheads are the apex predators — but the Pistol Shrimp is the sleeper threat, tiny and far harder-hitting than anything its size.
Worth hunting: Nautilus for Nautilus Shells, Pearl Clam for diamonds, gold and iron, Octopus for Ink Sacs in bulk, Blue Glaucus for Experience Bottles, Manta Ray for Phantom Membrane.
The Menagerie¶
A realistic-animal ecosystem spawns across the overworld by biome, and it's the backbone of Runaria's hunting quests. Every one of them is peaceful and deals no damage — with one exception.
| Where | Animals |
|---|---|
| Savanna | Antelope, Elephant (spawns as a parade of four), Giraffe, Hippo, Leopard, Rhino, Zebra, Budgies in ten colours |
| Snowy Plains | Snow Leopard, Reindeer, Blue Tit, Cardinal, Robin |
| Jungle | Chameleon, Koala |
| Swamp | Frogs, Capybara |
| Plains | Turkey, Capybara |
| Desert | Jerboa |
| Taiga & Old Growth Pine | Hedgehog |
| Birch Forest | Grizzly Bear |
| Beach | Flamingo |
| Frozen Ocean | Penguin — the most common of the lot by a wide margin |
| Indoors, anywhere | Rats — the only animal that spawns inside buildings, and they do it often |
The Black Widow
Small, venomous, bites on contact, and deliberately unrestricted — it can turn up in any biome. The only hostile animal in the Menagerie.
Trophies¶
Every animal drops experience plus a species trophy. Common animals give theirs often; the rare ones are worth hunting deliberately.
Easy and frequent — Capybara Pelt, Frog Eyes, Hedgehog Quills, Turkey Feathers, Zebra Pelt, Penguin Feathers
Worth chasing — Rhino Horn (the rarest at roughly 1 in 20), Jerboa Tail, Reindeer Horn, Giraffe Pelt, Orca Fin, Rat Tail
Seahorses are the odd one out: they drop their fin almost every time and a full spread of live corals, making them the easiest coral farm on the server.
The mines¶
Not creatures exactly — destructible resource nodes that repopulate on their own. See Ores & Materials for what they give and how to break them efficiently.
Odds and ends¶
Snails are harmless, extremely slow critters that squelch when they move, with nine randomised shell colours and slightly randomised size — no two look quite alike. They're very rare, drop nothing, and exist purely as ambience.
Some vanilla mobs hit harder here. Cave Spiders, Wither Skeletons and Giants have boosted health and damage server-wide.
Time of day doesn't matter. No custom creature on Runaria has a day/night, weather or moon-phase spawn condition.
