The Recipe Book

Type /recipes anywhere to open your book. It's your record of everything you've worked out, and your map of everything you haven't.

Every recipe has a slot

The book shows all 120 dishes from the moment you open it for the first time. Recipes you haven't discovered sit behind a question mark.

That's deliberate. You can see how much cooking is left to find, and watching the question marks turn into dishes is the progression. What you can't see is what's inside one — the ingredients stay hidden until you've earned them.

Discovering recipes

You discover recipes by handling their ingredients. Pick up a crop you've never held, and every recipe that uses it moves a step closer to being readable.

Discovery cascades

Ingredients are shared across dozens of dishes, so learning one new crop lights up parts of a whole line of recipes at once. Farming widely is the fastest way to fill the book — a season spent growing something new usually unlocks more than a season spent cooking.

A recipe becomes fully readable once you know everything that goes into it. Until then you'll see it partly masked, which is often enough to tell you what you're missing.

Recipes can also be granted outright. Some quests hand you one as a reward, so a dish you'd never have stumbled on can arrive complete.

Cooking from the book

Open the book while standing at a Prep Station and each recipe gains a Move Ingredients button. It pulls the ingredients out of your inventory and puts them on the board for you.

It only fills a board it can fill: if you're short, it says so rather than half-loading the grid, and a 4×4 recipe won't transfer onto a 3×3 board.

Recipe paper

Any recipe you know can be copied onto paper — a physical sheet you can trade, sell or hand to a friend, and which teaches whoever uses it.

Two rules worth knowing:

  • You keep the recipe. Copying doesn't cost you the knowledge, only a sheet of paper. Nobody ever accidentally sells the only copy of something they spent a season discovering.
  • One copy per recipe. You can't print a Unique dish forever and flood the market with it.

That makes rare recipes a genuine trade good. If you're the first person on the server to work out a Legendary dish, that sheet is worth something to someone.
