Knives & Tools¶
Cooking tools are held items. You don't equip them or slot them into a station — you simply carry one, and the station notices. They're sold in the Cooking section of the server shop alongside the stations.
What a tool does¶
Carrying the right tool for a job gives you half again the yield, and costs the tool a point of durability.
Tools wear out
These have real durability and they break. A knife used for a few hundred cuts is finished. Budget for replacements, or keep a spare in your kitchen.
No recipe currently requires a tool — you can cook badly on day one and upgrade into competence. Working without one just means smaller yields.
The tools¶
| Tool | Cost | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Paring Knife | 2,500 | The cheap knife. Does the job. |
| Bread Knife | 3,500 | Long serrated blade. |
| Kitchen Knife | 5,000 | A proper chef's knife. |
| Cleaver | 8,000 | Heavy blade for bone and joint work. |
| Cutting Board | 4,000 | A steady surface to work on. |
| Rolling Pin | 4,000 | Flattens dough. |
| Grater | 4,500 | Shreds and zests. |
| Meat Tenderiser | 6,000 | Beats meat flat before cooking. |
Knives¶
All four knives do the same job — they're what the Chopping Station looks for. Every chopping recipe in the game is a dicing job, and any knife satisfies it.
The difference between them is how long they last, not how well they work. A Paring Knife and a Cleaver produce identical results; the Cleaver simply survives far more cuts before it breaks. Buy the cheap one while you're learning and the expensive one once you're processing crops in bulk.
The rest¶
Boards, pins, graters and tenderisers are ahead of the recipes
These four are stocked and fully functional, but the current recipe list doesn't call for them yet — every chopping job is a knife job. They're there for the recipes still being added, and they'll start earning their keep as the chopping menu grows.
Buy a knife first. Come back for these when there's something to use them on.
What to buy first¶
A Paring Knife, and nothing else. It's 2,500, it covers every chopping recipe in the game, and half again on yield pays for itself quickly once you're juicing and dicing at any volume.
Move up to a Kitchen Knife or Cleaver when replacing knives starts to feel like a chore rather than an expense.
